Why FMGE needs a structured plan

FMGE covers 19 medical subjects in a 300-question format. Most candidates who struggle do not fail from lack of intelligence — they fail from uneven coverage, weak exam technique, or starting mocks too late.

This guide is a practical 3–6 month framework you can adapt to your baseline.

Step 1: Map the syllabus honestly

List all 19 subjects and mark each as:

  • Strong — you can explain concepts and solve timed MCQs
  • Average — needs structured revision
  • Weak — needs first-principles rebuild

Use our FMGE subjects hub for subject-wise high-yield topics, then deep-dive pages like Anatomy, Medicine, and Surgery.

Step 2: Choose your timeline

If you have 6 months

PhaseWeeksFocus
Foundation1–8Pre + para-clinical rebuild + daily MCQs
Clinical core9–16Medicine, Surgery, OBG, Pediatrics
Integration17–22Mixed timed sets + weak-topic repair
Peak23–26Full mocks + error log revision

If you have 3 months

Compress foundation to 3 weeks, clinical core to 5 weeks, then alternate mixed practice and full mocks every week. Do not skip mocks to “finish reading.”

Step 3: Daily operating system

A sustainable day beats a heroic week:

  1. Concept block (60–90 min) — one subject/system
  2. MCQ block (60–90 min) — tutor mode with explanations
  3. Error log (15–20 min) — rewrite why the correct answer wins
  4. Quick recall (10 min) — formulas, schedules, drug ADRs

Start free practice in the FMGify practice builder, then expand subject coverage as you go.

Step 4: Mock exams are not optional

Treat a 300-question mock as training, not judgment day:

  • Take at least 6–8 full mocks before the real exam if time allows
  • Review every wrong and guessed item within 48 hours
  • Track subject accuracy; rebuild the bottom three subjects weekly

Step 5: Final 14 days

  • Stop adding new resources
  • Revisit error log and high-yield lists only
  • Sleep and exam logistics matter as much as one more chapter

What to avoid

  • Collecting PDFs without solving questions
  • Ignoring Community Medicine formulas until the last week
  • Studying only favorite clinical subjects
  • Never practicing under timed conditions

Next actions

  1. Open the subject guides and bookmark your weak subjects
  2. Build a custom session in practice
  3. Read the companion post on how to use a question bank for FMGE
